‘Game of Thrones’ showrunners will write a new ‘Star Wars’ series

If you were excited for Rian Johnson’s upcoming trilogy of Star Wars films, there’s even nerdier news incoming. Another film series in a galaxy far, far away has just been announced — and they will be written and produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the showrunners of HBO’s Game of Thrones . The only thing we know about the new series is that it will be from both the main Skywalker saga and Johnson’s trilogy. Otherwise, nothing has been announced regarding their focus or release dates, though Weiss and Benioff noted they won’t start work on the films until Game of Thrones ‘ final season wraps. But at least this suggests a broader Star Wars universe beyond the stories we grew up watching. “David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today, ” Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said in a statement according to Variety . “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.” “In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since, ” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.” Source: Variety

Volkswagen unveils Sedric, its first fully autonomous vehicle

Volkswagen Group Volkswagen’s plans to develop fully autonomous vehicles that would offer greater comfort and convenience than current cars, while slashing the number of road deaths and truly democratizing mobility, have borne their first fruit. This is Sedric, designed to be a platform for cross-brand ideas, which will feed into subsequent concepts from the group’s car brands. The biggest idea it introduces is its full “Level 5” autonomy: no human driver is required. There’s no VW badge on the front of Sedric because this is the first concept car built by the Volkswagen Group, rather than the Volkswagen car brand. It was devised, designed, developed and constructed by Volkswagen Group’s Future Center Europe in Potsdam and Volkswagen Group Research in Wolfsburg. “We are systematically focusing on our customers, their wishes and requirements for the mobility of the future,” says chief designer Michael Mauer. “The Volkswagen Group Future Centers give us the opportunity to conceptualize and develop new ideas of mobile life.” Read 8 remaining paragraphs | Comments

4K Netflix is finally available on Windows 10 PCs

Netflix has been pushing out 4K content to its apps on streaming boxes and Smart TVs for awhile, but the entertainment industry’s anti-piracy crusade and some DRM limitations have meant PC users looking to stream ultra HD episodes of Bloodline have been out of luck until now. Starting today, Netflix’s 4K content is available to stream on Windows 10 PCs — but only if your machine is a fairly recent one. The catch: you’ll need a new or new-ish Windows 10 PC with a seventh-gen Intel Kaby Lake processor and 4K display to take advantage. So, your options are basically limited to the Lenovo Yoga 910 and a handful of gaming laptops and desktop machines at the moment. Assuming your hardware is good to go, you’ll also need to upgrade to the $12 monthly Premium subscription with Ultra HD streaming. Users with older Home Theater PCs are still out of luck, unfortunately. On the bright side, the new partnership with Netflix — which includes getting Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 4K a few days before everyone else — gives Redmond the opportunity to tout battery life improvements they’ve made to their very own Edge browser . According to Microsoft, you’ll be able to squeeze in one more episode before your battery dies if you’re streaming on Edge instead of Chrome. Of course, a Chromecast Ultra would also do the trick.
