NASA changed all the astrological signs and I’m a crab now

Enlarge / The new sign, “Ophiuchus,” means “Snake Bearer.” And who’s got two thumbs and loves snakes? THIS GUY RIGHT HERE. (credit: Wikimedia Commons ) According to a post on NASASpacePlace , everything we thought we knew about the influence the heavens have over our Earthly lives has been thrown into chaos. NASA has announced that the celestial sphere above us contains not twelve canonical zodiacal constellations, but 13. The heretofore overlooked constellation, Ophiuchus, is purported to guide and command events surrounding humans born between November 29 and December 17—so, if you used to be a Sagittarius, then congratulations: you’ve got a new sign, baby! The addition of Ophiuchus—the snake bearer , in case you were wondering—has obvious and far-reaching implications for the entire western Babylonian-derived zodiac calendar. For one thing, squeezing it in means changing the effective dates of all the other signs. According to Yahoo News , the new 13-sign calendar plays out like this: Capricorn:  January 20-February 16 Aquarius:  February 16-March 11 Pisces:  March 11-April 18 Aries:  April 18-May 13 Taurus:  May 13-June 21 Gemini:  June 21-July 20 Cancer:  July 20-August 10 Leo:  August 10-September 16 Virgo:  September 16-October 30 Libra:  October 30-November 23 Scorpio:  November 23-November 29 Ophiuchus:  November 29-December 17 Sagittarius:  December 17-January 20 The changes are as sweeping as they are staggering. For example, I woke up this morning firmly believing that I was an outgoing, courageous, independent, generous Leo. However, now I have to come to grips with the fact that I am in fact a stupid, sulky, inconsiderate, pessimistic Cancer. I have gone from lion to crab, and it weighs heavily upon me. Verizon creates monthly “maintenance” fee for customers with old routers

The Verizon FiOS Quantum Gateway (no maintenance fee required). (credit: Verizon) Verizon FiOS customers using one of the company’s older routers are being told they must pay a new monthly “maintenance charge” of $2.80 to cover the cost of supporting the apparently outdated equipment. Customers also have the option of buying one of the company’s newer routers, though some report being able to convince Verizon to give them a new one for free. “Our records indicate that you have an older model router that is being discontinued,” says an e-mail to customers published today by DSLReports . “If you do plan to keep using your current router, we will begin billing, on 9.29.16, a monthly Router Maintenance Charge of $2.80 (plus taxes), to ensure we deliver the best support.” Verizon confirmed the change to DSLReports, saying that the notice was sent to customers using the BHR1 and BHR2 routers. “Many of these routers have been in use for nearly ten years and have required more frequent repairs, so we’re trying to reduce that maintenance load and expense,” Verizon said. CCTV DVR Vulnerabilities Traced To Chinese OEM Which Spurned Researchers’ Advice

An anonymous reader writes: RSA security researcher Rotem Kerner has identified a common vulnerability in the firmware of 70 different CCTV DVR vendors, which allows crooks to execute code and gain root privileges on the affected devices. The problem was actually in the firmware of just one DVR sold by Chinese firm TVT. The practice of “white-labeling” products helped propagate this issue to other “manufacturers” who did nothing more than to buy a non-branded DVR, tweaked its firmware, slapped their logo on top, and sold it a their own, vulnerability included. Carly Fiorina Calls Apple’s Tim Cook a ‘Hypocrite’ On Gay Rights

HughPickens.com (3830033) writes “David Knowles reports at Bloomberg that former Hewlett-Packard CEO and potential 2016 presidential candidate Carly Fiorina called out Apple CEO Tim Cook as a hypocrite for criticizing Indiana and Arkansas over their Religious Freedom Restoration Acts while at the same time doing business in countries where gay rights are non-existent. “When Tim Cook is upset about all the places that he does business because of the way they treat gays and women, he needs to withdraw from 90% of the markets that he’s in, including China and Saudi Arabia, ” Fiorina said. “But I don’t hear him being upset about that.” In similar criticism of Hillary Clinton on the Fox News program Hannity, Fiorina argued that Clinton’s advocacy on behalf of women was tarnished by donations made to the Clinton Foundation from foreign governments where women’s rights are not on par with those in America. “”I must say as a woman, I find it offensive that Hillary Clinton travels the Silicon Valley, a place where I worked for a long time, and lectures Silicon Valley companies on women’s rights in technology, and yet sees nothing wrong with taking money from the Algerian government, which really denies women the most basic human rights. This is called, Sean, hypocrisy.” While Hillary Clinton hasn’t directly addressed Fiorina’s criticisms, her husband has. “You’ve got to decide, when you do this work, whether it will do more good than harm if someone helps you from another country, ” former president Bill Clinton said in March. “And I believe we have done a lot more good than harm. And I believe this is a good thing.”” Read more of this story at Slashdot.
