Microsoft shows how to redeem an Xbox One download code in six seconds (video)

How quickly can you redeem an Xbox One download code ? Quickly enough to fit the experience into a six-second Vine video , apparently. Microsoft’s Major Nelson has just posted one of the looping clips (after the break) to prove that you can scan codes with the console’s Kinect sensor in mere moments. It’s doubtful that anyone will need to grab content quite that quickly, but the demo is a friendly reminder of the time we’ll save by ditching old-fashioned keyboard input after November 22nd . I Pity The Fool Who Resurrected Silk Road

If there’s one thing cops don’t like, it’s being disrespected. So when some renegade launches a clone of Silk Road, the underground drug marketplace that Feds recently shut down, they’re just begging to get arrested. They even made the homepage a spoof of an FBI-seized domain. That’s disrespectful! Read more…

Blockbuster to shutter remaining US retail stores, accept the inevitable

It wasn’t hard to see the writing on the wall for Blockbuster’s rapidly declining disc-based movie services, and it’s now clear that the end is at hand. The Dish-owned company says it will close its remaining 300 directly controlled American stores (down from 9, 000 in its heyday) by early January, along with their matching distribution centers. Blockbuster By Mail rentals will also disappear by mid-December. While franchised stores will survive, Blockbuster is effectively becoming an internet-only brand in the US; you’ll likely have to use Blockbuster @Home or Blockbuster On Demand to see that blue-and-yellow logo. We’re not lamenting the death of the retail business when online services are much more convenient, but we won’t blame you if you feel slightly nostalgic — it’s the end of an era. Google Ends Internet Explorer 9 Support In Google Apps

An anonymous reader writes “Google has announced it is discontinuing support for Internet Explorer 9 in Google Apps, including its Business, Education, and Government editions. Google says it has stopped all testing and engineering work related to IE9, given that IE11 was released on October 17 along with Windows 8.1. This means that IE9 users who access Gmail and other Google Apps services will be notified ‘within the next few weeks’ that they need to upgrade to a more modern browser. Google says this will either happen through an in-product notification message or an interstitial page.” Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Zero Motorcycles unveils 2014 e-bike lineup, including the high-powered Zero SR (video)

Fall is well underway, which means it’s time for Zero Motorcycles to give its e-motorbike range a tune-up. The highlight for many will be the Zero SR : the red-hued, $16, 995 flagship produces both 24 percent more power and 56 percent more torque than the Zero S, which takes it to 60MPH in a brisk 3.3 seconds. There’s a little something for everyone, however. All 2014 bikes can use a $2, 495 Z-Force Power Tank that extends the range up to 171 miles in city travel, and the company has refined the brakes, handling and suspension on the Zero S, Zero DS and Zero FX. Eco-friendly riders can request price quotes for the new bikes today, or at least whet their appetites through a promo video after the break. The World’s Thinnest 2TB Hard Drive Is a Mere 9.5mm Thick

Just a few months ago we were impressed with Western Digital for cramming an entire terabyte of storage into a mobile hard drive that was just seven millimeters thick. But now Seagate’s come along to steal WD’s thunder with the ultra-slim 2.5-inch Spinpoint M9T that manages to double that capacity to two-terabytes inside a drive that’s just 9.5 millimeters thick. HP’s NonStop Servers Go x86, Countdown To Itanium Extinction Begins

An anonymous reader writes “HP has been the sole holdout on the Itanium, mostly because so much of the PA-RISC architecture lives on in that chip. However, the company recently began migration of Integrity Superdome servers from Itanium to Xeon, and now it has announced that the top of its server line, the NonStop series, will migrate to x86 as well, presumably the 15-core E7 V2 Intel will release next year. So while no one has said it, this likely seems the end of the Itanium experiment, one that went on a lot longer than it should have, given its failure out of the gate.” Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Doxie Flip is a battery-powered, flatbed-style portable scanner that costs $149

When it comes to portable scanners , Doxie already has a little something for most everyone . But there’s nothing wrong with adding yet another one to its lineup, right? Today, the company is announcing the Doxie Flip, a wireless scanning device that bears a flatbed appearance and remains as easily transportable as the other members of the family. Unlike Doxie’s Go and One , however, the Flip isn’t designed to capture documents — instead, the idea is to be able to scan artifacts of many different shapes and sizes, such as notebooks, photo albums, coins and other stuff your creative mind might think of. On the software side, Doxie is making folks who are invested in its ecosystem feel right at home, since the newly released Flip relies on the same software as previous models. The Doxie Flip is now available for $149, and you can get a better glimpse of it by checking out the gallery below.%Gallery-slideshow103457% Filed under: Misc , Peripherals Comments Source: Doxie
