FCC Proposes $48,000 Fine To Man Jamming Cellphones On Florida Interstate

New submitter freddieb writes: “An individual who had been jamming cellphone traffic on interstate 4 in Florida was located by FCC agents with the assistance of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputies. The individual had reportedly been jamming cellphone traffic on I-4 for two years. The FCC is now proposing a $48, 000 fine for his actions. They say the jamming ‘could and may have had disastrous consequences by precluding the use of cell phones to reach life-saving 9-1-1 services provided by police, ambulance, and fire departments.'” Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Florida Town Stores License Plate Camera Images For Ten Years

The Longboat Key police have their new license plate camera up and running, but according to the police chief, this one stores all images as ‘evidence’ for up to ten years. When questioned about the possibility for abuses of this camera’s historical record, the chief said, ‘There are regulations, policies and laws in place that prohibit that kind of abuse. Whistleblowing IT Director Fired By FL State Attorney

An anonymous reader writes “Ben Kruidbos, the IT director for the Florida State Attorney’s Office who’d spoken up when important cellphone evidence he’d extracted from Trayvon Martin’s cellphone was withheld by the state from the defense, was fired by messenger at 7:30 PM Friday, after closing arguments in the Zimmerman case. He was told that he could not be ‘trusted to set foot in this office, ‘ and that he was being fired for incompetence. Kruidbos had received a merit pay raise earlier this year.
