DuckDuckGo Donates $100,000 Among Four FOSS Projects
jones_supa writes As is the search engine company’s annual habit, DuckDuckGo has chosen to advance four open source projects by donating to them. The primary focus this year was to support FOSS projects that bring privacy tools to anyone who needs them. $25, 000 goes to The Freedom of the Press Foundation to support SecureDrop, which is a whistleblower submission used to securely accept documents from anonymous sources. The Electronic Frontier Foundation was given $25, 000 to support PrivacyBadger, which is a browser add-on that stops advertisers and other third-party trackers from secretly tracking your surfing habits. Another $25, 000 arrives at GPGTools to support GPG Suite, which is a software package for OS X that encrypts files or messages. Penguinisto writes According to a scan by Qualys, Hillary Clinton’s personal e-mail server, which has lately generated more than a little controversy in US political circles, has earned an “F” rating for security from the security vendor. Problems include SSL2 support, a weak signature, and only having support for older TLS protocols, among numerous other problems. Note that there are allegations that the email server was possibly already hacked in 2013. (Note: Mrs. Clinton plans on Giving a press conference to the public today on the issue.) Lost City Discovered In Honduran Rain Forest
jones_supa writes: An expedition to Honduras has emerged from the jungle with the discovery of a previously unknown culture’s lost city. The team was led to the remote, uninhabited region by long-standing rumors that it was the site of a storied “White City, ” also referred to in legend as the “City of the Monkey God.” Archaeologists surveyed and mapped extensive plazas, earthworks, mounds, and an earthen pyramid belonging to a culture that thrived a thousand years ago, and then vanished. The team also discovered a remarkable cache of stone sculptures that had lain untouched since the city was abandoned. The objects were documented but left unexcavated. Firefox 36 Arrives With Full HTTP/2 Support, New Design For Android Tablets
An anonymous reader writes: Mozilla today launched Firefox 36 for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. Additions to the browser include some security improvements, better HTML 5 support, and a new tablet user interface on Android. The biggest news for the browser is undoubtedly HTTP/2 support, the roadmap for which Mozilla outlined just last week. Mozilla plans to keep various draft levels of HTTP/2, already in Firefox, for a few versions. These will be removed “sometime in the near future.” The full changelog is here.
