MicroxWin Creates Linux Distribution That Runs Debian/Ubuntu & Android Apps

An anonymous reader writes VolksPC who developed MicroXwin as a lightweight X Window Server has come up with their own Linux distribution. Setting apart VolksPC’s distribution from others is that it’s based on both Debian and Android and has the capability to run Debian/Ubuntu/Android apps together in a native ARM experience. The implementation doesn’t depend on VNC or other similar solutions of the past that have tried to join desktop apps with mobile Android apps. This distribution is also reportedly compatible with all Android applications. The distribution is expected to begin shipping on an ARM mini-PC stick. Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Malaysia Airlines passenger jet reported shot down in Ukraine near Russian border

Interfax , CNN, and other news agencies are reporting that a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 passenger jet flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur has crashed on the eastern border of Ukraine, near the border with Russia. The Ukrainian interior minister says the plane was “shot down, ” but does not say by whom. Read the rest

The Turing Test which requires that computers are indistinguishable from humans — is considered a landmark in the development of artificial intelligence, but academics have warned that the technology could be used for cybercrime. An anonymous reader writes “In an unprecedented total disruption of a fully operational GNSS constellation, all satellites in the Russian GLONASS broadcast corrupt information for 11 hours, from just past midnight until noon Russian time (UTC+4), on April 2 (or 5 p.m. on April 1 to 4 a.m. April 2, U.S. Eastern time). Report: NASA Cuts All Non-ISS Ties with Russia Over Ukraine

In an internal memo, NASA has stated that it will suspend all interaction with the Russian government, in response to Russia’s violations of Ukraine’s territorial independence. Fortunately for U.S. astronauts Rick Mastracchio and Steve Swanson, both currently orbiting on the International Space Station, the two agencies will still cooperate to transport supplies and personnel to and from the ISS. 3-D Printed Skull Successfully Implanted In Woman

First time accepted submitter djhaskin987 (2147470) writes “The first successful implantation of a 3-D printed skull has taken place in the Netherlands, according to NBC news: ‘Doctors in the Netherlands report that they have for the first time successfully replaced most of a human’s skull with a 3-D printed plastic one — and likely saved a woman’s life in the process. The 23-hour surgery took place three months ago at University Medical Center Utrecht.
