The Virtuix Omni “is an omnidirectional treadmill video game peripheral for virtual reality games currently in development by Virtuix, ” says Wikipedia. With this device and an Oculus Rift, Razer Hydra or a similar “immersive” headset, you can play games equipped to use these devices with your whole body moving in any direction you choose. “Taking a drag from an e-cigarette may be just as safe and effective as slapping on a nicotine patch for smokers struggling to quit, according to the first physician-run trial to compare the two products.” That’s according to research recently published in The Lancet (PDF) and reported by Bloomberg. Why is this significant? From the article: “If European and U.S. regulators treat e-cigarettes as medical devices, yet leave cigarettes on general sale, tobacco makers ‘will retain their market monopoly, and we will never learn whether e-cigarettes would replace traditional cigarettes if allowed to continue evolving and competing with smoked tobacco on even terms, ‘ [wrote clinical psychology professor Peter Hajek]. The results will also be presented today at the European Respiratory Society’s annual meeting in Barcelona. E-cigarettes have taken Europe and the U.S. by storm. In France, there are more than 1 million regular users, according to a government-commissioned report published in May. Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology have reported the first observation of the ‘spin Hall effect’ in a cloud of ultracold atoms, acting as a single quantum object and then called BEC, the lowest state of matter, with solid and liquid coming next. Only 3% of this aquatic plant’s DNA is not part of a known gene, new research shows. In contrast, only 2% of human DNA is part of a gene. The bladderwort, named for its water-filled bladders that suck in unsuspecting prey, is a relative of the tomato. While there’s still little known about Sony’s efforts to pioneer the first 4K movie download service , one thing we can say almost definitely now is that the service will in fact be compatible with its ( supposedly ) upcoming PS4. In an interview with The Verge , Sony President and COO Phil Molyneux almost sort of definitely confirmed that the service would be compatible with the ethereal console by promising that we “will not be disappointed.” Oh, and by the way, a typical 4K movie download will chew up more than 100 GB of bandwidth.
