It wasn’t hard to see the writing on the wall for Blockbuster’s rapidly declining disc-based movie services, and it’s now clear that the end is at hand. The Dish-owned company says it will close its remaining 300 directly controlled American stores (down from 9, 000 in its heyday) by early January, along with their matching distribution centers. Blockbuster By Mail rentals will also disappear by mid-December. While franchised stores will survive, Blockbuster is effectively becoming an internet-only brand in the US; you’ll likely have to use Blockbuster @Home or Blockbuster On Demand to see that blue-and-yellow logo. We’re not lamenting the death of the retail business when online services are much more convenient, but we won’t blame you if you feel slightly nostalgic — it’s the end of an era. Fall is well underway, which means it’s time for Zero Motorcycles to give its e-motorbike range a tune-up. The highlight for many will be the Zero SR : the red-hued, $16, 995 flagship produces both 24 percent more power and 56 percent more torque than the Zero S, which takes it to 60MPH in a brisk 3.3 seconds. There’s a little something for everyone, however. All 2014 bikes can use a $2, 495 Z-Force Power Tank that extends the range up to 171 miles in city travel, and the company has refined the brakes, handling and suspension on the Zero S, Zero DS and Zero FX. Eco-friendly riders can request price quotes for the new bikes today, or at least whet their appetites through a promo video after the break. At Samsung’s Analyst Day, alongside talking serious financial numbers, forward looking statements and such, the company has announced that it will bring fully-foldable screens to willing customers some time in 2015. The screen tech (which we’ve seen an incremental nudge towards with the Galaxy Round) could find its way into both typical smart devices like tablets and smartphones as well as wearables, which is something that Samsung has shown more than a passing interest in. In fact, Samsung Electronics CEO Kwon Oh Hyun, in the same statement, reiterated that there was still plenty of “room for improvement” on the Galaxy Gear. The company already posited some extra-malleable screens in its big CES press show back in January, where we snapped the above still from the concept-laden (Google Glass-baiting) video promo.
